Reporting from Woods Hole, Mass. In the warm aquamarine waters of the Gulf of Mexico, an ottoman-sized loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) paddles gracefully along a reef looking for food. Loggerheads, which can grow to almost a whopping four feet and they can weigh up to 550 pounds! That is unreal, they sustain themselves on a varied diet that includes delicious shrimp, conch, and yummy sea snails. The census will be released in October 2010, and will be cataloging the smallest of organisms, bacteria and the single celled microorganisms called archaea. Archaea are believed to play a role in the carbon and nitrogen cycles, which are obviously crucial to sustaining life. While a loggerhead can hold its breath for up to an hour, a hooked turtle can’t live if it can’t rise to breathe. Hundreds die each year on “long lines” in the Gulf of Mexico. Fishermen usually release turtles if they are still alive, but often they have drowned. I love learning more about different species, but this one saddens me to hear. I know that there are others who adore the same compassion toward innocent animals.
By May 2000, It is now almost 10 years later and there are life forms still unseen. The Census team has been on over 400 shipboard expeditions, discovering new life. So far more they discovered more than 5,600 now species, “many from the hottest, coldest, saltiest and deepest parts of the oceans.” since may, of 2000. An old species was rediscovered a mile beneath the Northeast ocean, which had been extinct for 50 million years, a shrimp, five inch specimen, with big eyes and red spots. The beaches of Florida are home to one of the highest densities of nesting loggerheads come under the protection of the Endangered Species Act as a threatened species.
My first reaction after reading this article was that it was very sad and I wish I could do something to help the poor turtles. Till I read further it just got worse, in 2005 it was said they could endure the capture of up to 203, with no more than 78 of those dead, without endangering the population. The numbers progresses as the years go by, so they created a long term plan. The fishery closed in May, it was only a recently reopened with temporary protective measures in a place.
This article made me think of the poor animals that are going extinct. It shouldn’t solely be blamed on people, or why else would we be exploring new species. There has to be a reason for everything, we just don’t like to see it knowing we can do something to help out. We can’t stop everything from going sour, there is only so much we can do. This article made me think about how the fisheries are made up to have large masses of certain fish. That compared to deer hunting ground where the sprinklers shoot out food. Well it is the same concept just taken a lot lighter. Basically, it isn’t a direct threat to our government in any way so the problem is told to be unforeseen.

"9"
In a Grim, Mysterious World, a Burlap Hero With a Heart of Golden Fuzz
I found this article at the New York Times. I really enjoy watching Tim Burton films. My favorite movie by him is The Nightmare Before Christmas. He inspires me to be more creative and more open to something so rare it is abnormal. The abnormal is the most intreaging aspect of the whole situation. I love watching the characters at such a interesting motion. I saw 9 in the movie theater when it first came out. I thought it was of much brilliance. To me the meaning was to give a thought to the children about how the world truly is.
The story is about the world ending and a group of scientist had made mini robots. They were made out of thin material and were given a number on they’re back. 9 is the main character, he is the most brave and endearing. He is very smart and he realized landscape rich with allusions to the histories of painting, animation, fantastic literature and 20th-century totalitarianism. 9 shows remarkable imagination and visual integrity. The most unique part of the animation in this movie is the material the robots are made of. They are simply handmade, as if his tools were not a mouse and a keyboard but rather a needle and thread. 9 had a zipper that had a piece of him valuable inside it.
My first reaction to this movie was that I loved it. Not as much as I love “Nightmare Before Christmas”. Tim Burton and his passion of “weirdness” will never be replaced, whatever you decide to call his creative art madness. He is a animation saint, who will take his time to make it the most beautiful. Watching the animations he created and the details he put into every character is just admiring. He came up with ideas and inventions that has never been heard about or seen.
I was very interested when I first saw “9”, the outline of the story was a major “thinker”. It made me think of how children would come across such an adult outlook of things. It made me wonder how many children books really affect a child’s look upon life. I know that fairy tales like “Aladin.” What boy doesn’t want the princess of the land, and what kid doesn’t want a flying rug. There are tons of other stories and movies that could take advantage of influence. The thought of making such an impression might be overwhelming, unless otherwise undetected.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed watching “9” it is such a lovable story you can’t go wrong. There was a ton of action and reflections of our history’s past. The movie had a lot of monumental images and influences. I was amazed at how much the characters were very well animated and express each of them individually. If I were to become a part of t.v. production or films, I would definitely go in the direction of animation.

Indian art/architecture

I was browsing through some very unique pictures of this time period. It led me to the Gopuram one of the greatest achievements of Indian civilization. It is said to be a greater deal than Taj Mahal, Khajuraho, Vijayanagara.
In the time of Ashoka (c.270-232), the construction of the Buddhist monasteries and stupas were the beginnings of the Indian architecture to the advent of Buddhism in India. This temple is an ancient piece of culture, art, and architecture. It is beautifully designed to represent the culture of the Buddhism beliefs. Indian culture is very intricate and detailed, It is so fascinating to see how unique. They sculpt animals and Gods that they adore and worship. I would love to experience this art in my own eyes. I believe I would have a better sense of feeling if I were to portray the art in person. Architecture is a term to describe form and stability, but the Hindu temples are “temples”. The two terms shouldn’t be used together quite so much. The culture brings so much life into the art, you see the artist in the sculptures.
For several centuries Buddhist architecture was predominant, now there are only few remains of Hindu temples. By the eighth century, the Hindu school of architecture was beginning to flourish. The rock-cut temples of Mahabalipuram and the temples of Kanchipuram are the most notable achievements of the Pallavas. Hindus added a completely new series of incredible temples and imaginable carvings. They once were in Buddhist caves, but went to the majestic Kailasa temple, constructed for Rashtrakuta monarch Krishna.
What interests me most is how so many cultures differ from one another, and the way people express their passions for their appreciation of life. Joy comes from so many things, art, worship, writing, compassion. There are too many way’s you could go, everyone has their own definite expression of your beliefs. Indian culture is an extreme art of carving and proportioned architecture that is so rare and unique.
This portion of history is what created the structure and objects we have now. To understand the great deal that our history provides for us is practically impossible. With some people their eyes are strictly focusing on one thing in their life. In today’s advanced technology we communicate with in seconds. We can turn on a colorful talking screen of “entertainment” in every room. Or we could research and explore about the incredible knowledge of the past that makes us who we are today. Without the depth of art and religion in design, there would never have been a better sought of creation. If they hadn’t of been here to expand the knowledge what kind of structured house would we be living in? I metal cast with glass walls? Who knows, but no matter what kind of structure we live in we can always create. There is not a more compassionate way to express your thoughts than to scribble them out!

Chimpanzees
I found this article at nytimes.com. I love what scientist is figuring out about animals. It is truly amazing how uniquely different we are compared to animals, but it is even more intriguing to see our similarities in the way we speak.(Krak krak! Means “Watch out, a leopard!)(Hok hok hok! Means, Hey, crowned eagle!)At the Tai National Park in Ivory Coast scientist are exploring the realms of nature with a monkey! The adult males have six types of calls; all of them have a specific different meaning. They can also connect two or more calls together into a message with a different meaning. The scientist spent months recording the calls in response to both natural and artificial stimuli. A group led by Klaus Zuberbuhler from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland argues that the Cambell’s monkeys have a primitive form of syntax.
“This is likely to be a controversial claim because despite extensive efforts to teach chimpanzees language, the subjects showed little or no ability to combine the sounds they learned into a sentence with a larger meaning. Syntax, basic to the structure of language, seemed be a uniquely human faculty.”
My first reaction was being confused. I wasn’t sure if the scientist were trying to teach the monkeys to speak our way, or if they were trying to understand how the monkeys talked to each other. Well, it turned out to be both, teaching them and learning from them. The “boob-boob” call invites other monkeys to come toward the male making the sound. Two booms can e combined with a series of the “krak-oos,” with a meaning entirely different to that of either of its components. “Boom boom Krak-oo krak-oo krak-oo” is the monkey’s version of “Timber!”- It warns of falling trees.
I thought that this was an amazement to find out how the Cambell monkey speaks. It would take a lot of time and patients for someone to try and learn from a monkey. This would be a fun job; I believe I would actually learn a lot from working with monkeys. I love animals they are so unique and innocent. I don’t know what else I would do for a living than helping to helpless. Monkeys are so smart and kind, they are gentle enough that understand how your feeling. If your dog can tell that you’re upset, why wouldn’t a monkey be able to?
In conclusion, I absolutely loved this article, I love learning more about animals. They are so fascinating to me, and your knowledge of them can never run out of space. There are so many creatures that are not seen and not even heard of. How could researching animals be boring?? My biggest passion with animals are birds, I absolutely adore birds. child almost killed
This story struck my attention because of the pain and hurt that this woman must have been enduring for the thoughts she had in her head. This New York City woman faces charges that she tricked her husband’s pregnant mistress into taking a drug that would cause an abortion. Police say Kisha Jones of Brooklyn used a doctor's prescription pad to order the medication, then phoned the victim pretending to be from her obstetrician's office and told her to pick up the drug at the pharmacy and take it. The woman fell for the trick, took the drug and went into labor, authorities said. The baby was born two months early, but survived. But after the baby was born that didn’t stop this woman from trying again according to the prosecutors. They say that, posing as the baby's mother, she sent a man to the hospital with two bottles of tainted liquid, saying it was breast milk, and instructed nurses to feed it to the baby. On the 31, charges were given for forgery, possession of stolen property, assault and unlicensed abortion. Jones wasn’t a dumb woman, she just had her heart hurt, and she had used a technological trick called “spoofing” to make it appear as if the call had originated from the doctor’s office.
This story really caught my attention because I could understand why this woman was going mad. Love makes you crazy to where you don’t think about what you’re doing, you just do it and pray it makes you feel better. But putting an innocent child life, in the hands of an angry and very upset and distraught woman is not the best option. Jones should have stopped trying to kill the child after it was born. But she did not she continued to hurt the child after it was born and that’s when action was taken place.

It is depressing to imagine how Jones feels in order to have these thought and feelings toward this innocent child that has absolutely nothing to do with the hurt she is feeling because of her husband. Barreleye
I found this article at National Geographic;
A group of marine biologist we’re swimming around the ocean one day, and came upon an interesting creature that they have never seen before. It was a coincident to even have discovered the creature for he was hundreds of feet down in the Pacific Ocean. They called him barreleye fish. This fish is amazement to the water life. There has been nothing like this fish to be seen anywhere. The fish, was discovered alive in the deep water off California’s central coast by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI).This fish is quite amazing not just the way it looks but because it is the first specimen of its kind to be found with its soft transparent dome intact. The 6-inch (15-centimeter) Barreleye (Macropinna micorstoma) has been known and around since the 1930’s. Sadly the only ones discovered besides this one were not alive when found, they were mangled specimens dragged to the surface by nets. These fish are so amazing looking and the way they act is quite amusing as well. With a head like a fighter-plan cockpit, a Pacific Barreleye fish shows off its highly sensitive, barrel-like eyes. The eyes are the most incredible pair of eye balls I’ve ever seen. They are described as orb-like lenses.
My first reaction to this article was that this fish truly has the best eye protection policy in the world. With the fishes eye’s actually being in the fishes head with false eyes on the outside, claimed to be the fishes nose. It is quite brilliant to see what magnificent creature we still to this day don’t know about. This creature is smart; they go after jelly fishes food, because since the Barreleyes eyes are in closed in its head it can’t be harmed by the jelly fish’s stings.
This article made me realize how interesting the oceanic life truly is. Of course there are see through fish and upside down fish, but this one almost tops them all. This fish basically has a force shield completely surrounding its body. It must have amazing eye sight in order for them to be so very well protected. And its head is seeing through! That is quite amazing to see a fish, not a jelly fish but a “Barreleyed” fish be halfway see through. And to have the cutest face ever! I couldn’t believe how cute it’s little mouth and nose is. John Edward, cave explorer
I found this article at two different cites CNN and Airamerica. A tragedy occured November 26, 2009 in Salt Lake city. John Edward Jones, 26 of Stansubry Park got stuck in the Nutty Putty Cave, which sits west of Utah Lake near Cedar Valley, according to the sheriff’s offich of Utah County. He was a medical student who died Thursday after a daylong effort to rescue him 150 feet underground, he was a husband and a father. He was trapped upside down for more than 26 hours in a crevice that was 18 inches wide and about 10 inches high. The crevice is about 150 feet below the surface and about 700 feet from the cave entrance, according to the sheriff’s department. Rescuers tried their best to get John out but he was so wedged in the crevice it was impossible to get him out. They tried using a pulley but they ended up failing. Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, rescuers get close enough to Jones conclude that he was not breathing and he had no pulse.
28 hours of being jammed tight in small crevice with your last minutes being stuck. I thought this story was such a tragedy it would of been a scary situation to be in. He was said to of been a cave explorer, and a good one at that. It is a shame such a young and endearing person should have to die such a tragic death.
My first reaction was that this story was extremely and desperately saddening to happen especially during the holiday season and he had one child and another on the way. He was just a brave young explorer that made a few seconds long decision that would affect his and everone else’s that he knew around him. It could of happened to anyone, luckily he was with other people and had the chance to at least get help. For the amount of time he had to spend in that tight space he must of been in a lot of pain trying to contour his body in the sharp shapes of the rocks. “The crevice was 700 feet from the cave entrance, according to the sheriff’s department.” Just to get to John was a difficult transaction to accomplish. I don’t think John would of made it as long as he did if he hadn’t keep his mind on his family and loved ones. He was a lucky man to have had help in the first place, It is a true tragedy the young husband and father had to pass on. This story made me think of the ways people leave this world, sometimes it is unexplainable and other times they are just weird accidents that happen when you least expect it.
In conclusion, this was a very sad story, but gave the thought to you other young explorers out there to be careful and cautious about the holes that you crawl into. It’s a dangerous world out there especially in the least expected places.

For the amount of time he had to spend in that tight space he must of been in a lot of pain trying to contour his body in the sharp shapes of the rocks. “The crevice was 700 feet from the cave entrance, according to the sheriff’s department.” Just to get to John was a difficult transaction to accomplish. I don’t think John would of made it as long as he did if he hadn’t keep his mind on his family and loved ones. He was a lucky man to have had help in the first place, It is a true tragedy the young husband and father had to pass on. This story made me think of the ways people leave this world, sometimes it is unexplainable and other times they are just weird accidents that happen when you least expect it.
In conclusion, this was a very sad story, but gave the thought to you other young explorers out there to be careful and cautious about the holes that you crawl into. It’s a dangerous world out there especially in the least expected places.

Holiday cheer is always a good way to put a smile on people’s faces. Kmart employees are doing just that. They are rounding up money to donate to people in need of the holidays. Katy Benboe was driving home from work, worrying and thinking about how she would provide Thanksgiving dinner for her family. She was going to ask for some time off so she could apply for some help. “But then I got home and there was a message on my answering machine,” said Benboe, who manages a local fast food restaurant. “It said our Thanksgiving dinner would be taken care of.” There were 20 selected to revive a free, full Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of local Kmart employees. “We thought it would be something good to bring the families together.” Hanson said. “Everybody was pretty positive. A lot of them are parents trying to feed their kids, just trying to make it through the day.”
This article gives you the outer look perspective of helping and giving to others when they need it most. On Saturday, Hanson and four other Kmart employees handed out the meals- a turkey a turkey, potatoes, green beans, rolls, cranberries, gravy and a pumpkin pie – to 10 families in need of a little holiday help. The other 10 will go out on Tuesday. These people that donated from Kmart shouldn’t be looked at as an employed sucking up or trying to look good. They are family and helping out one another as much as they can, just giving back to the community. I thought at first they were just trying to make Kmart look good and not just help out 20 random people.
My first reaction was WOW! I want to do that for someone that is so special. I would love to get a big group of volunteers to help out and you could have a huge dinner at a church so that everyone could be together on Thanksgiving like we should be. I found this article at CNN.com. Everyone loves Oprah Winfrey, she has been one of the best talk show host for the past 25 years. Anyone and everyone from 10 to 70 years old love’s Oprah. Words from Christina Norman, is that the Oprah Winfrey show was coming to an end sadly for America. “She is the life force behind OWN and will be guiding the effort for this completely new 24-hour television experience premiering in January 2011.” Oprah announced she was stopping the show on Sep 9, 2011 at the end of one of her shows. “Oprah Winfrey arguably has more influence on the culture than any university president, politician, or religious leader, except perhaps the Pope.” Said, by Vanity Fair Magazine.
My first reaction was saddening, I love watching Oprah’s show, she is the only talk show host I ever do watch. She is considered a hero in many people’s eyes, and it’s difficult for those whose lives she has changed. Which has been thousands, maybe they haven’t been direct and personal but hearing her strong words and knowing how much she cares about the people in need. Oprah is an unbelievably caring women, since a young age she decided to take charge of her destiny and become a woman of influence.
When I first read the article, I was upset because I didn’t get the chance to watch the episode. But, her show isn’t over for another year, I found it very reasonable to confront the audience so soon. America would have been extremely mad if she had told everyone a month or a few weeks before. I wish Oprah would stay a t.v. host, but that woman has so much vocal strength that she can be heard by all over the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if she decided to go to politics. I would find it upsetting if she went there, although people listen and trust her, she would be an amazing representative. I believe I reacted the way I did because believe it or not she has probably helped out you too, and you just don’t know it. People hold her words dear to them and dignify them to be the truth. She has been a fantastic t.v. host she has the whole world as her viewers.

I found this article at cnn.news I always get into article of which the cop was the “bad guy”, don’t know why but it always strikes my attention. Joseph Ryle from Cheyenne, Wyoming a state trooper was sentenced to years in prison for kidnapping a truck driver in what prosecutors say was an aborted murder plot. I July, Ryle pleaded guilty to charges he violated the civil rights of Wal-Mart trucker Richard Smidt by pulling him over and kidnapping him in January near Douglas. Ryle also admitted to carrying a firearm during the crime, a factor that added a mandatory 5 years to his sentence.
My first reaction to this story was that it was just unbelievable. At first I wasn’t so sure on why he would even want to kidnap a trucker, then it hit me that it was a truck driver from Wal-Mart. Ryle had planned on killing the driver but then Ryle realized the trucks GPS system would contain variable information on attaining how long the truck was sitting there. It was a little confusing to really understand where his plan was going and what he was going to get out of the kidnapping or the murder.
I’d have to admit that this story was a little “out there” if you know what I mean. This cop wasn’t just out for money or fame. He claims to have a sickness that had been going on for a while and caused depression for some period of time. “There’s been times what I thought about just stuffing my pistol in my mouth and just killing myself,” Ryle said. Ryle’s parents asked Johnson for leniency, saying the highway patrol had failed to get help for their son. Smidt and Kathy Abrams, Andrea Ryle’s mother, asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence. His sentenced fluctuated but ended up being 11 years behind bars for the kidnapping of Richard Smidt. Smidt is lucky to be alive; Caspar alleged that in addition to kill Smidt, Ryle also planned to kill his wife, Andrea Ryle.
This story makes me so nervous about getting pulled over; I already was before now I’m even more scared. Just face it America no one can be perfect; no object can be perfect, we are simply lucky to have our fine brains in our heads. The health plan is going to stink no matter what, before the middle class was being dealt a bad hand, now it’s the elder. Either way as long as our children are being taken care of by this “free health Insurance” then we should be happy. The bill may not be accepted in the first place, just because the House accepted it doesn’t mean the Senate will, and if they do they will make a revision first. The bill is of course looked at in two completely different ways, one is that the bill is going to jeopardize more so than it will help out. It will cause a reduce in senior health care and from reports from the healthcare experts at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services it will also increase medical costs through inflation. The health care cost could end up rising 21.1 percent by 2019.
My first reaction was that America always has to have something to complain about. No matter it be that your fries were too cold or your car won’t start. Well, just step back a notch and thank God you can actually afford fries and a car. People’s lives are so different from one another it’s hard to emotional set your feelings to try and feel what someone else might be feeling. For us to have a National Healthcare Bill is pretty amazing in itself but it’s not the same anymore. People used to look out for each other, they only look out for themselves now, and it’s almost the last resort. I think people are going overboard and have been going overboard for a long time now. It almost seems as if people are getting more selfish as the years go by.
I reacted this way because I believe people no longer are a team. This world doesn’t belong to us, it doesn’t belong to anyone, and we just got lucky enough to make it home. Yes, this bill may cause some damage to some healthcare plans, but at least were trying to make a change. It is said that health care cost could estimate to be 21.1 percent is a lot of money but by the time in 2019 who knows what the world will be like then? This made me think, why are we trying to figure out the future when we’ve never been right anyways. I believe I reacted this way because all we do is worry and we never try to change the right things and end up worse or right back where we were.
In conclusion, this article is driving me crazy this will go on and on forever. But if there wasn’t anything going on then, we would be lost cause there would be nothing to complain about.

Is Google scaming you??

I was only looking at a news story when I saw this advertisement for Google. Did you know that just about anyone can get a job with Google? The only thing is you have to pay them too, around a 100 dollars a day to just have an account with them. At first they make it look like you only pay a few dollars for shipments here and there. But in the fine, fine print at the top of the page it says 74.00 a month and tax included to be a member of the “Google.network.” It is quit tempting to be reading about all these people making 1 to 7 thousand a month! Just sitting at home on the computer making 80 bucks an hour! It makes you wonder, could this be real? I was hoping it was, then, I saw the amount that we have to pay in order to even have the job. Apparently all you do is paste Google’s links on emails and attachments to your friends and family and so forth.
My first reaction was that there must be a major failure to communicate from Google’s side. I almost wanted to try it so then I could let you all know if it really worked or not. The only bad thing that they actually show and tell you is the amount you owe monthly, what if you never make a profit and your stuck with this payment to Google. It’s not like they don’t make millions of dollars in profits, let alone all of these poor suckers who got sobbed in to “not making any money” They did specify it you wanted to cancel you Google account you may at any given time. But who knows if that is necessarily true?
If I have learned anything about the internet it would be not to listen to any of the advertisements, especially if they have a person on there talking to you. I think those are the worst and the ones to stay away from. The internet has became more and more threatening toward young and vulnerable people. The internet sites make it look so simple to attract any one willing of making a few bucks. They list the 3 steps to be making thousands while at home. “Step 1 go to online at Online Cash Success Kit and fill that out, it will only cost $1.00 after shipping and using the promo code “cash4me”. Step 2; Get Google Cash and learn how to set up a Google account. Pay $1.97 for shipping. Step 3; Start posting links and let Google do the rest, and wait for your check at the end of the month.
Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? Well until you go on a little further and realize its just a scam and you have to teach yourself where to post the links and drive your family crazy by sending them links all the time. Google is a multi-million dollar company, I really don’t think they need anyone’s help on making more money. In conclusion, be careful for what you fall for, especially on the internet. You don’t know who you’re dealing with half of the time.

A young woman sought to be blind from a disturbance at a fast food restaurant. Jessica Miller is this woman’s name, she said that as they arrived to the restaurant, two men began fighting with each other. So she began to try and break up the fight. She said that Reed which was in a crowd watching, tried to pull her away from the combatants. She told him to “stop touching me”, cause he kept grabbing her. Reed apparently knew one of the two men fighting and told her to mind her own business and let the fight proceed. She said, that after he pulled her away a third time, he punched her in her left eye. He had shattered all the bones around Millers eye socket and the zyomatic arch. Joplin police states, that her eye socket was crushed, her eyeball was ruptured, her cheekbone was shattered and nerves on the left side of her face were severed. Also, Her eyeball was detached by the blow and that she required six surgeries from this one massive hit in the face. She wasn’t even in a fight to begin with, she was knocked out of her shoes, by a fool who thought he wouldn’t get punished for hitting a woman.
My first reaction to this article was that how dumb and drunk could you possibly be to hit a woman? On these pretences she was either going to get hit by one of the men actually in the fight, or by some random outcast who thinks he can control people by breaking their face.
This article makes me very mad to the women who do let men push them around and don’t do anything about it. But this women wasn’t letting that happen to her. It makes my head hurt trying to figure out why he had this in his mind to hit a woman? What was that going to solve, only to make his interior self feel better? That is the most pathetic excuse that I have ever heard to physically hurt someone else, a stranger at that! I believe this article made me react the way I did because I feel so strongly about this topic and hate the way people make themselves feel better in these insane ways.
In conclusion, this article was an eye opener to all women out there, only involve yourself in a man on man fight if it is actually someone you know and care about. Otherwise it is a pre-caution just to stay away and out of harm’s way. The world has gotten too dangerous to put yourself in these kind of positions for no particular reason. It is a kind thought to break things up to resolve the situation, but it is best to leave it be. Unless the situation gets out of hand then emergencies are confronted. I don’t see anyone women or man trying to stop a fight anywhere else, why here in Joplin Mo? No one whoud dare enter a fight in New York or Chicago, right?

You have to have to watch this movie! It doesn’t just tell you what you eat, it shows you what you eat. Most Americans spend 9% of their income on food! People wanted food to be cheap but didn’t realize other things that would be better off being cheap. For instance, medicine and other addictions were a high result in the word of the people. It’s sad to realize Americans are more excited about a 99 cent burger rather a 99 cent head of lettuce. We have shot down the right to get the real nutrition that we need for our health, and our children’s health. There is a major difference between “healthy food” and just “food”. If people don’t change things soon, well just end up being treated like the animals were eating. There is cloned meat that we eat and is not labeled on the food we buy. If we do something about this horrible food we may save lives and live longer. The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the last 10 thousand years! The average super market has over 47,000 different products. All of our fruits and vegetables aren’t even safe to eat because of the pesticides in them. And every seed of corn or apple is exactly the same. Farms are now considered factories. There are only 13 different slaughter houses in the entire country.
Not only is our health at risk but our knowledge of our health is being held hostage. That to me is extremely unfair, but it’s been brought up this way because Americans have not said or done anything about it. The few farmers that are left and have not been sued are the only ones who care and actually know what is going on with the food industry. This documentary provides information that you do not want to hear or see. The few people that I have talked with in person that hasn’t seen it yet, say they will not see it. I believe it’s because they know how far we gone down in our food industry and there is little hope to be back to the point we were once upon a time.
My first reaction to this documentary was that I was never going to eat fast food ever, ever again! It sickens me to find out that every day someone dies of salmonella. There are over thousands of different cows in one pound of beef. And did you know that it is illegal to engage an argument with meat industries? What does that mean??? What we eat, breath and walk for everyday should be completely in the citizens hands. Otherwise, it’s thought to be condescending to spare information that should be rightfully given and nor prosecuted for believing its absurd. Opra is a prime example for my point, it took Opra 6 years to win her case against Monsanto. She said she was never going to eat another hamburger on national television, and Monsanto sued Opra for loss of profit and for arguing against them. Opra won the case but she was the only one out of thousands of farmers in America.
This movie made me realize a lot more than what I already knew and heard, it seems to be worse than what I wished. At this point in cloning animals it’s a fright cause that means we are running out of food to eat. There are too many recalls for this meat to be sanitary and not to be questioned. People die every day from this food we wanted so cheap and fast. Go Go Go Americans we rock, we have Mc Donalds! WoooHoo! Mc Donalds started the first fast pace low paid workers. That soon became a perfect way to run a meat processing factory. Mc Donald’s has its own private meat, egg, and vegetable factories because Americans “love” cheap, fast food. (Hmmm…food? Or Bad fast food??) Although, what were eating is horrible for us it was not what we had intended on. Farmers and the America people are slowly recognizing that we are running out of time. The animals were here way long before we were and now they are leaving before we are. If we are cloning animals and the animals get more stupid every time they are cloned, what is going to happen if we eat dumb cloned animals? Will we get more stupid? It may seem like a weird question, but seriously now imagine if we continued with the human cloning. In 20 years peoples IQ would increasingly drop, just like the animals.
I believe this is the one and only article that I have done, that I could continuously argue and debate my thoughts for such a time period. I believe that this article made me feel so strongly because half of this country has absolutely no idea what is going on! It is increasingly disappointing to see us go down like this. Farmers who have their land from generation from generation had lost everything because they didn’t want to follow Monsanto’s regulations that caused everything the farmers had earned to disappear. If the farmers tried to plead for their case it was no match for Monsanto, they would lose their money and a lot more. They lost their career, friends, passion and admiration. All to American people not seeing what was slowly happening and what quickly turned sour.
In conclusion this blog is my favorite so far, I still have a lot of thoughts and arguments to settle but I figure I better stop rambling. My point to this blog is to at least have somewhat of knowledge about what we the American citizens eat. You have to have to watch this movie! It doesn’t just tell you what you eat, it shows you what you eat. Most Americans spend 9% of their income on food! People wanted food to be cheap but didn’t realize other things that would be better off being cheap. For instance, medicine and other addictions were a high result in the word of the people. It’s sad to realize Americans are more excited about a 99 cent burger rather a 99 cent head of lettuce. We have shot down the right to get the real nutrition that we need for our health, and our children’s health. There is a major difference between “healthy food” and just “food”. If people don’t change things soon, well just end up being treated like the animals were eating. There is cloned meat that we eat and is not labeled on the food we buy. If we do something about this horrible food we may save lives and live longer. The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the last 10 thousand years! The average super market has over 47,000 different products. All of our fruits and vegetables aren’t even safe to eat because of the pesticides in them. And every seed of corn or apple is exactly the same. Farms are now considered factories. There are only 13 different slaughter houses in the entire country.
Not only is our health at risk but our knowledge of our health is being held hostage. That to me is extremely unfair, but it’s been brought up this way because Americans have not said or done anything about it. The few farmers that are left and have not been sued are the only ones who care and actually know what is going on with the food industry. This documentary provides information that you do not want to hear or see. The few people that I have talked with in person that hasn’t seen it yet, say they will not see it. I believe it’s because they know how far we gone down in our food industry and there is little hope to be back to the point we were once upon a time.
My first reaction to this documentary was that I was never going to eat fast food ever, ever again! It sickens me to find out that every day someone dies of salmonella. There are over thousands of different cows in one pound of beef. And did you know that it is illegal to engage an argument with meat industries? What does that mean??? What we eat, breath and walk for everyday should be completely in the citizens hands. Otherwise, it’s thought to be condescending to spare information that should be rightfully given and nor prosecuted for believing its absurd. Opra is a prime example for my point, it took Opra 6 years to win her case against Monsanto. She said she was never going to eat another hamburger on national television, and Monsanto sued Opra for loss of profit and for arguing against them. Opra won the case but she was the only one out of thousands of farmers in America.
This movie made me realize a lot more than what I already knew and heard, it seems to be worse than what I wished. At this point in cloning animals it’s a fright cause that means we are running out of food to eat. There are too many recalls for this meat to be sanitary and not to be questioned. People die every day from this food we wanted so cheap and fast. Go Go Go Americans we rock, we have Mc Donalds! WoooHoo! Mc Donalds started the first fast pace low paid workers. That soon became a perfect way to run a meat processing factory. Mc Donald’s has its own private meat, egg, and vegetable factories because Americans “love” cheap, fast food. (Hmmm…food? Or Bad fast food??) Although, what were eating is horrible for us it was not what we had intended on. Farmers and the America people are slowly recognizing that we are running out of time. The animals were here way long before we were and now they are leaving before we are. If we are cloning animals and the animals get more stupid every time they are cloned, what is going to happen if we eat dumb cloned animals? Will we get more stupid? It may seem like a weird question, but seriously now imagine if we continued with the human cloning. In 20 years peoples IQ would increasingly drop, just like the animals.
I believe this is the one and only article that I have done, that I could continuously argue and debate my thoughts for such a time period. I believe that this article made me feel so strongly because half of this country has absolutely no idea what is going on! It is increasingly disappointing to see us go down like this. I found this article at new york times; Usually animals attacks are rare, especially coyote attacks. A young singer and writer named Taylor Mitchell, age 19 from Toronto. She was touring her new album on the East Coast. She was a promising young musician with an amazing talent. She was such a wonderful artist she enjoyed writing her own songs and she was really good. She was extremely excited about traveling and being able to sing and play for people. But it all went terribly wrong for her, she was going for a hike to get some fresh air and to get her mind off of things and to get some exercise. When out of no-where she got brutally attacked, it was at Cape Breton highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. Tuesday when the attack occurred, she was soon airlifted to a Halifax hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning. Bancroft, a retired biologist with Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources, said it’s possible that the coyotes thought that Mitchell was a deer or other prey. He also said “It’s very unusual and is not likely to be repeated,” Bancroft said.
My first reaction to this article was that it was very shocking to hear of about a coyote attack. Everyone knows that coyotes don’t get along with humans in the first place, but they don’t dare come towards us. I think maybe that the only reason why the dogs decided to approach Taylor was because she was all alone, and the coyotes see that as a weakness. The dogs are very territorial, she may have got to close to a den or home of theirs, they may have had a few cubs and they felt threatened by her. I do not see these animals just attacking for no particular reason other than they were scared. The poor girl was in the wrong place at the wrong moment and she was alone.
I believe I reacted the way I did because Taylor did nothing wrong in order for her to deserve what happened. Deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, a new species of giant rat with no fear of humans have been discovered. I found this at New York times, it is my favorite news source, especially for science and health. These little lovable creatures live in volcanic craters. This rat is amazingly 32 inches long, said scientist traveling with a BBC film crew to the “lost” Mount Bosavi crater. On this adventure there were also other creatures that were found to either be very different or even thought to be extinct. To be exact they found 40 other creatures, including bizarre fanged toads, tiny bear-like creatures, and grunting fish. All of their new discoveries and crazy animals will be shown on the (Lost Land of the Volcano)on BBC. The show will highlight that the local rainforest is being destroyed at the rate of 3.5% a year!
After I read this article I thought it was terrible that the rain forest is being destroyed everywhere, the rainforest are barely surviving. It’s depressing for all the animals that once had homes and had to move on or they didn’t have the chance to leave. I find it sad that nature has to take its toll in some cases, in this context it is because of the volcano. Also, humans do their part as well in “marking our territory” and doing what we want where ever we want. I believe that animals are harmless and cannot truly stand up for themselves, so their homes get destroyed and so does their pride. After finishing reading this article I was still disturbed about the rain forests and the animals losing their home.

That is a dramatic statement, but I was only implying that it could happen and we would have little help to stop it when it does. It’s scary to think that it could happen to us, what if we all of a sudden got wiped out of our daily routine. I think I reacted the way I did because good and bad things always happen for a reason, and we are ignorant to think otherwise.

Clean Up Time!
Clean Up Time!
In Los Alamos, they are cleaning up and getting rid of the dump that no one sought to clean. The lab has been around since 1945. It is where the world’s first nuclear explosion was created, during World War 2. Now, there is a team of workers using $212 million dollars of federal stimulus money to clean up the 65-year old lab. Nearly 73,000 people have applied for stimulus jobs cleaning up nuclear sites since the program was announced. Over 10,800 positions have been taken. They are approaching the job in a very caring manner for no one to get harmed. The people living there are not affected by the lab anymore. There were some bad times for them, a fire actually broke out uncomfortably close to its original plant near the center of town. But the town has amazing grown since then, and they have many businesses right across the street from the old dump.
My first response to this article was that it was interesting how many people actually tried to get a job cleaning up nuclear waste plants. This article shows how bad the economy has fallen, and how desperate people really are in today’s world. I guess you never know what people will do until the time approaches and the will is willing.
I believe that it is quite dangerous to be not only cleaning the areas of the labs but to be destroying them? They must be doing a lot of planning and organizing, in order to have very safe procedures. If it were me or a relative of mine doing this, I’m not quite sure if I would allow such a thing. It’s different if you were a scientist there and you knew all the dangers. But to be an ordinary Joe and to walk into that, is a scary thing in my eyes. I would be scared to risk my life, just in order to take care of the family or the bills. Before reading the whole article I couldn’t believe that they were demolishing the lab while still having people in the area. It seems almost cruel and unusual, but the town folks have lived with the plant there, their entire lives. I bet the only thing that bothers them is having the eye sore. My opinions really didn’t change that much after reading the whole article. I still thought that the people working were a little crazy…
In conclusion, I believe this is a job for highly professionals to deal with. Even if the pay is outstanding for the average citizen, which it defiantly should be. I still don’t see if being worth losing my life over it, or hundreds of other peoples live that live around the area. Anything could happen to the plant, there are harsh chemicals left in there as well as it is soaked in the earth. They may be wearing masks and body suits but that still won’t prevent an explosion from happening. And what makes them decide to clean it all up now anyways? Was it the government or the city? .

Life After School
A Different Look At Life based on

This book was very eye opening to me to hear thoughts that are so close in mind. Mr. Quinn talks about not being able to open up in school. To always be on strict and regulated rules instead of pursueing the true reason for learning. This book kept my attention all the way throught it was ironic and funny. It had a good meaning that was very easy to relate with.
This is a quote by Quinn, "What one sees first is how far short real schooling falls from the ideal of 'young minds being awakened.' Teachers for the most part would be delighted to awaken young minds, but the system within which they must work fundamentally frustrates that desire by insisting that all minds must be opened in the same order, using the same tools, and at the same pace, on a certain schedule. The teacher is charged with getting the class as a whole to a certain predetermined point in the curriculum by a certain predetermined time, and the individuals that make up the class soon learn how to help the teacher with this task. This is, in a sense, the first thing they must learn. Some learn it quickly and easily and others learn it slowly and painfully, but all eventually learn it. "
My first reaction was that it was interesting to read because it's true, I have heard many instructors discuss this issue during classes. When the teacher would start finding interesting ways to get us to actually learn about something, it's those topics that I remember. I don't remember learning anything of use from the test's and worksheets we were forced to fill out. I sat in class and wondered why we all had to learn the same things and weren't even given much room to pursue our own interests or explore the things we would soon be faced with in real life. It hardly sounds like an Einstein, Ghandi, or Edison would come from a institution so concerned with uniformity.
This makes another point though, about how little we retain from school, and how useful what we remember is. In other cultures, children learn useful skills, learn to create and how to live productively. When you graduate from high school it's a whole different world- we learn how to listen and do what we are told, and to not think out of the box-cause you don't get good grades when you work outside of the guidelines-it makes a lasting impression, we do things the same way we've always done them and rarely try to do anything different.
"In societies you consider primitive, youngsters 'graduate' from childhood at age thirteen or fourteen, and by this age have basically learned all they need in order to function as adults in their community. They've learned so much, in fact, that if the rest of the community were simply to vanish overnight, they'd be able to survive without the least difficulty. They'd know how to make the tools needed for hunting and fishing. They'd know how to shelter and clothe themselves. At age thirteen or fourteen, their survival value is one hundred percent."
"In your vastly more advanced system, youngsters graduate from your school system at age eighteen, and their survival value is virtually zero. If the rest of the community were to vanish overnight and they were left entirely to their own resources, they'd have to be very lucky to survive at all."
In conclusion, this is probably the reason there are now classes that offer skill's such as cooking, help you learn how to dress and act for a job interview, and give you advice on creating a budet. These classes are viewed as the easy A's, and yet students fail them every year- and have no clue what to do when they get out of school and try to make it on their own. I related to this story because I didn't learn very many valuable things from school that has to do with most day to day living.

In conclusion, this is probably the reason there are now classes that offer skill's such as cooking, help you learn how to dress and act for a job interview, and give you advice on creating a budet. These classes are viewed as the easy A's, and yet students fail them every year- and have no clue what to do when they get out of school and try to make it on their own. I related to this story because I didn't learn very many valuable things from school that has to do with most day to day living.
Brook Astor
I found this article at in the New York Times, it seemed very interesting. A mother and a son love wasn’t what it was thought to be. Brook Astor, the legendary New York society matriarch, her son was convicted of stealing from her as she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Anthony D. Marshall, Brooks’s son, an 85-year-old war veteran who fought at Iwo Jima, can be sentenced to 1 to 25 years in jail. Marshall was guilty of 14 counts against him. Jurors convicted him of giving himself an unauthorized raise of about 1 million for managing his mother’s finances. Brooks disease was gone over in court, calling witnesses to testify to the signs of her deterioration; forgetting the names of close friends, not knowing simple words like “faucet,” and harboring paranoid fears of men in suits coming to kill her at night. Mrs. Astor passed away two years ago at the age of 105.
When I first read this article, I was a little shocked that someone would do this to their own flesh and blood; it’s scary to think of how greedy humans have become. Apparently for some very greedy and selfish, who would steal from your sick mother? I don’t see how people can hurt
others without any compassion of love and trust.
Obviously Brook didn’t have any money problems, but if her son were to be in a state to need to borrow some money that wouldn’t of been a problem for Brook. But this was not the case, Marshall didn’t just steal money from his own mother he took herself dignity and respect. He went behind her back, when these poor women was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and tried to take everything that she had. As a son you do not do this to your mother or anyone for that matter. Mathew Wayne Shepard
I actually was watching Ellen when I first heard of this boy. Mathew Wayne Shepard was a student at the University of Wyoming he was only 21 years old when he was murdered. In Laramie, Wyoming, he was invited to hang out with a few friends of his till in the car things started going bad. He was robbed, pistol whipped, tortured, he was then tied to a fence, and left to die in the cold. The crime was sought to be a hate crime. Shepard was discoved 18 hours later, he was still alive, but in a coma state. He suffered a fracture from the back of his head to the front of his right ear. He was pronounced dead on October 12, 1998 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Police arrested the men who did this to Matt, they found the gun and the victims shoes and wallet in their truck. The men who did this to Matt admitted that “they were planning to rob a gay man that night.” They were not intending to kill him either, but to have the mindset “O were going to go rob from a gay person?” I don’t understand how people think of themselves, I mean seriously, how are you so much better than a gay person? What aspects do you have that they don’t?

Are Walruses Endangered?

The Pacific walruses are facing a threat from global warming, walruses have been crowding beaches and rocks along the Russian and American sides of the Bering Strait because of the coastal sea ice that normally serves the walruses as a home. Biologists issued a report that 131 walruses were found dead near Icy Cape, Alaska, on September 14th they died from being crushed or stampeded. This was mainly because the Chukchi Sea the heart of the walrus subspecies’ range, was nearly just open water. In 2007, there were several thousand deaths reported around this same area. At this time the population still remains abundant at 200,000 by some account, double the number in the 1950’s. As long as hunting and the crowding of beaches don’t keep accuring experts do not foresee the species’ becoming extinct. An environmental group called Center for Biological Diversity, concluded that there was sufficient scientific evidence of the rising stress on the animals from climate change to consider granting the Pacific walrus protection under the Endangered Species Act.
I believe that walruses should be considered an endangered species, their homes are being melted away, there are too many of them to live substantially well. They are over populated in too small of areas to not get hurt by one another or by people. I believe that this article opened my eyes to understand oceanic life is a very crucial habitat. People think that we are being affected so drastically, we don’t even see that it could be so much worse and we could all be prancing around on a beach and get ran over by a speed boat.
This article made me react in a concerning point of view toward the lives of these innocent creatures. They do their best to find a good home and we go and take them all out as if they were vultures taking themselves onto our prideful land. Why can’t we be more humane about the outcome of others lives and not just ours. I adore the scientist that are doing their best for the walruses, even though we can’t make a lot of ice and just put it somewhere for them to live. They are trying to do their best at, at least concerning others of their potential life threat. “The Center for Biological Diversity, concluded that there was sufficient scientific evidence of the rising stress on the animals from climate change to consider granting the Pacific walrus protection under the Endangered Species Act.” This quote made me feel horrible, the stress for animals seems to be none at all right? You wouldn’t think that animals could be so emotionally affected just by the weather and different climate changes. You figure that they would just adapt to what they are given.
In conclusion, it is a difficult time for Pacific walruses, but not to worry scientist are configuring a way to help them out. I look up to these scientist who care so much about the creatures and natural habitats on this planet. "Audio Drugs"

It is called “Audio drugs mushroom in Azerbaijan”; It is about the use of binaural beats to inflict a state similar to that caused by drugs or alcohol. Binaural beats are frequency's sent through the ears via stereo headphones, that are suspected of causing a mind altering change in the person listening. It works through two different frequencies being put into the right and left ears. Though the frequencies are really two different sounds, when each is put in the different ears the brain will make up it's own frequency and effeciently turn the two into one pulsing sound which is what the conscious mind registers. It is also known as another form of subliminal messaging. The effects on the human mind can range from relaxation, to increased energy and focus. There are many forms available for sale, both on the internet and in stores. Unfortunately , it has become popular for websites to advertise them as digital drugs, saying that they cause similar responses as such substances as marijuana, crack, cocaine, alcohol, nicotine, and much more. Therefore many countries have banned them and hold those who sell them accountable for criminal charges, and many other to advocate for school's to also ban these "illegal substances" and raise awareness.
In the beginning I was a little skeptical, not only about the fact that just hearing something could influence you so severely so as to be outlawed. However, upon further reading I started to understand how it could slip into your subconscious so easily, especially when these 'beats' or pulses are disguised by a pleasing noise such as water flowing, birds in the forest, or crickets chirping their melodies through the night. People’s conscious is affected daily by either watching television or listening to the radio. If you do something daily, like smoking cigarettes for example you get addicted and your brain tells you that you like it. I believe this is around the same concept. Television provides entertainment for your brain there for it approves and likes it, the same for water flowing and animal noises.
My reaction towards this article is that people just went overboard on this. I don’t think that sounds could make you feel like you have taken drugs. The Los Angeles National Forest;

This fire burned for nearly over a month and burned away nearly a quarter of the mountains, which was a beautiful backdrop of the skyline in Los Angeles. Scientist are curious now, wanting to know how animals can have a fighting chance to live not only during but mainly after mass fires. Other scientist are “intensifying study of the environmental aftermath of the changing burn pattern.” They are wanting a better understanding of it, especially in areas where development meets wilderness and threatened and endangered species are present. Mr. Hoefen, a scientist also said “Hopefully, our science will start to show people that it is not just a fire, but there could be problems for the frogs, fish and the runoff.”, “Wind and rain blowing the ash into streams and ponds could have an effect after the fire.” 7 of Los Angeles largest wildfires have occurred in the last six years, and unfortunately most were caused by people.
“We have to figure out a way to give animals a way to persist in a way they did before in a landscape that is burning too fast too much.”, Said Robert N. Fisher, a biologist with the United States Geological Survey, which has coordinated a team to take a closer look at this fire and other recent ones as well. The fire was named The Station fire, it started on August 26th near a ranger station, has destroyed several dozen homes and caused the deaths of two Los Angeles County firefighters. It is the largest fire in the modern history of Los Angeles County. It has burned more than 160,000 acres.
After reading this article it made me think of not only all of the homes that burned and the firefighters that helped save lives. It’s a tragedy that is a difficulty to handle for people, animals and for mothernature. It’s sad to have to see this kind of disaster, the rebuilding of this destruction is impossible. This article made me act concerned towards those who actually try and help.
I think I reacted the way I did because there are scientist who not only care about the forest life but also the animal life that was once there. MONARCH BUTTERFLIES
From 1975-1985, the female race of monarch butterflies dropped 53 percent. But unfortunately from the last decade 43 percent of the female population has dropped. Which is an outstanding amount that fears all the butterfly lovers. Monarchs are the most iconic butterflies, they migrate from the eastern United States to the mountaintops of Mexico, where sometimes almost millions gather, and Monarch west of the Rockies spend the winter along the California coast. The sex ratio was the first study, which quickly turned into something else. A decline in females were also found southward of the monarchs migration as well. “That means the females aren’t entering the migratory pool, whatever it is, it’s happening before or during the migration period.”
When I first read this article and got the statistics on how many Monarchs were slowly disappearing I was sad. I admit my love for animals is a little too much. But, butterflies are the most enduring creatures, they are so docile and beautiful it’s difficult not to enjoy their presence. Knowing that the female population is dropping rapidly it seems it is quit devastating to the butterfly race. My thoughts from reading further into the story did not change what so ever.

And How did they go, is exactly what I would like to find out. Life is always a mystery, whether it is about the human race or the animal race, there is always something that happens that is unexplainable. I mean if the population of female butterflies decreases what’s to say any other female race wont decrease. The world is full of unremarkable changes that we and everyone on this earth has to endure whether it affects our daily lives or not it drastically effects and changes the world with every movement.
In conclusion, this article sets an observation on the kindness and disasters this world has out for us. There’s no better way to explain the worlds habits other than what you’ve read above. This article to this day is still a mystery. Scientist discovered the population decrease years ago and is a still an on-going topic that amazes us still to this day.
MARINE LIFE
Census Marine Life; featured in LA times…

Discoveries of the world’s oceans, was claimed to be known in a year’s completion, but early discoveries have changed the understanding of life beneath the sea, Census say’s. There are now tracking tools to see what fish do for food and migration, for ex.) White sharks forage even farther for food, commuting between Australia and South Africa. The worlds most threatened family of birds, the gray-headed albatross, stunned researchers when they the albatrosses raced around the globe in 46 days flat!
The project to find out and name all the living creatures in the world’s oceans began in May 2000, It is now almost 10 years later and there are life forms still unseen. The Census team has been on over 400 shipboard expeditions, discovering new life. So far more they discovered more than 5,600 now species, “many from the hottest, coldest, saltiest and deepest parts of the oceans.” since may, of 2000. An old species was rediscovered a mile beneath the Northeast ocean, which had been extinct for 50 million years, a shrimp, five inch specimen, with big eyes and red spots.
Fred Grassle, director emeritus at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences said, “Probably the greatest diversity of life is in the deep sea.” The proof came up when marine scientists used fine-mesh sieves to trawl nearly three miles down, they caught tens of thousands of swimming snails, worms and other tiny invertebrates in almost every net. This was a spot where they thought nothing even lived there, come to find out what was lying beneath the ocean floor.
The census will be released in October 2010, and will be cataloging the smallest of organisms, bacteria and the single celled microorganisms called archaea. Archaea are believed to play a role in the carbon and nitrogen cycles, which are obviously crucial to sustaining life.
Census also went to the extremities to find out the ancient Greek text, to see if they could find documentations on man’s impact on the world’s oceans. “In Europe, they found Renaissance-era painting of fish markets with seafood that no longer exists.” In North America, “custom records and captains’ log books indicated that fishermen in the Gulf of Maine hooked 20 times more cod in 1860 than commercial fleets do today!” Obviously because man as taken our minds and capabilities too far and to no return.
Ausubel and Grassle from Woods Hole institute hatched the idea of surveying every species. Most scientist said it was a crazy idea. Ignoring the skeptics, Ausubel persuaded the a foundations to provide funding. The Government and other foundations chipped in later on.
This idea was obviously seen as a joke, What, group of scientist will be able to discover every inch of life in the on- growing sea? Well they had a plan, the scientist set three goals. First, they would build a global registry of all the marine life forms. Second, they would map where each species lives and traves to better understand their habitat and nature of that creature. Third, they would assess the relative abundance of each organism—“past, present, and future.”
Another amazing thing that Census started was that, “there are about 2,000 scientist in 80 countries that has joined in the largest collaboration in the history of ocean science. Scientist has also figured a way to “bar code a life” instead of eyeballing a species to identify it. Which, I am not sure how on earth they figured that one out but that is outstanding. “By next October, the online database will contain photos, DNA codes and websites for at least 230,000 unique species, including more than 16,000 fish,” scientist said.
This article made me realize that there are intelligent people who do care about other things rather than their selves. It opened my eyes to a new picture, of discovering things that you don’t think matter but are one of the most important studies of the world. The ocean is BIG, very big, bigger than what we have to walk on. I believe trying to find every animal there is in the ocean is truly admiring. These scientist are curious enough to explore the entire ocean all over the world! It is a broad choice to make and I endear that. The animals that have survived, throughout the human race polluting almost every inch of our planet, is a remarkable creature. Not just a remarkable creature but, is to be here hopefully longer than us. These animals were here before we were, what makes it right to make them disappear along with human kind?
I believe that I reacted the way I did because, I wish to be one of those scientist exploring new parts of the ocean and new species every day. This article was very interesting and exciting, I didn’t want to stop reading and researching this topic. The animals amaze me every time, but in order for a person to amaze me is not common. But these scientist are particularly interesting to me, for the fact that no one believed they could even get close on this project, or even have anyone follow along with their thoughts and ideas. “Ausubel and Grassle from Woods Hole institute hatched the idea of surveying every species. Most scientist said it was a crazy idea. Ignoring the skeptics, Ausubel persuaded the foundations to provide funding. The Government and other foundations chipped in later on.” Not only did they persuade other foundations, “There are about 2,000 scientist in 80 countries that has joined in the largest collaboration in the history of ocean science.” The “largest collaboration in the history of ocean science!” That should tell you enough. These examples above, not only shows but describes how in genius these two scientist are.
In conclusion, by far, from all of my blogs this is my favorite one, researching lives other than ourselves is an amazing tribute to what we owe our world in my eyes.

Discoveries of the world’s oceans, was claimed to be known in a year’s completion, but early discoveries have changed the understanding of life beneath the sea, Census say’s. There are now tracking tools to see what fish do for food and migration, for ex.) White sharks forage even farther for food, commuting between Australia and South Africa. The worlds most threatened family of birds, the gray-headed albatross, stunned researchers when they the albatrosses raced around the globe in 46 days flat!
The project to find out and name all the living creatures in the world’s oceans began in May 2000, It is now almost 10 years later and there are life forms still unseen. The Census team has been on over 400 shipboard expeditions, discovering new life. So far more they discovered more than 5,600 now species, “many from the hottest, coldest, saltiest and deepest parts of the oceans.” since may, of 2000. An old species was rediscovered a mile beneath the Northeast ocean, which had been extinct for 50 million years, a shrimp, five inch specimen, with big eyes and red spots.
Fred Grassle, director emeritus at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences said, “Probably the greatest diversity of life is in the deep sea.” The proof came up when marine scientists used fine-mesh sieves to trawl nearly three miles down, they caught tens of thousands of swimming snails, worms and other tiny invertebrates in almost every net. This was a spot where they thought nothing even lived there, come to find out what was lying beneath the ocean floor.
The census will be released in October 2010, and will be cataloging the smallest of organisms, bacteria and the single celled microorganisms called archaea. Archaea are believed to play a role in the carbon and nitrogen cycles, which are obviously crucial to sustaining life.
Census also went to the extremities to find out the ancient Greek text, to see if they could find documentations on man’s impact on the world’s oceans. “In Europe, they found Renaissance-era painting of fish markets with seafood that no longer exists.” In North America, “custom records and captains’ log books indicated that fishermen in the Gulf of Maine hooked 20 times more cod in 1860 than commercial fleets do today!” Obviously because man as taken our minds and capabilities too far and to no return.
Ausubel and Grassle from Woods Hole institute hatched the idea of surveying every species. Most scientist said it was a crazy idea. Ignoring the skeptics, Ausubel persuaded the a foundations to provide funding. The Government and other foundations chipped in later on.
This idea was obviously seen as a joke, What, group of scientist will be able to discover every inch of life in the on- growing sea? Well they had a plan, the scientist set three goals. First, they would build a global registry of all the marine life forms. Second, they would map where each species lives and traves to better understand their habitat and nature of that creature. Third, they would assess the relative abundance of each organism—“past, present, and future.”
Another amazing thing that Census started was that, “there are about 2,000 scientist in 80 countries that has joined in the largest collaboration in the history of ocean science. Scientist has also figured a way to “bar code a life” instead of eyeballing a species to identify it. Which, I am not sure how on earth they figured that one out but that is outstanding. “By next October, the online database will contain photos, DNA codes and websites for at least 230,000 unique species, including more than 16,000 fish,” scientist said.

Toddler Survives

In Meridian, Idaho, May 9, an 18 month old baby got a pencil lodged in his throat at a local park. It started off just a normal morning for this little boy named Auston Banks. His mother said, “We go out every morning before lunchtime and we play to let the kids run their energy out before nap time.” One second Auston and his brother were playing on the swing, said his mom, then “I turned back to talk to somebody and it wasn’t 20 seconds later I heard this high-pitched sound, not even like a scream, because his tongue was pinned down.” At first he was just laying on his back, his mom saw the pencil and just immediately thought he was just chewing on it, but in actuality it was lodged in his throat. The first challenge was to be able to make it to the hospital in time. Luckily St. Luke’s Children hospital was only 5 minutes away from the playground. But for any parent in that situation, 5 minutes seems like a life time. “I was freaking out, I was scared.”, “All of the sudden he just went limp in m arms. I had his hands pinned down so he couldn’t pull the pencil, and I put my hands on his chest. I could barely, barely feel him breathing” said, Auston’s mom. X rays showed the pencil tip was dull, and had missed his spine while pushing his carotid artery to the side. Turns out since the pencil was not previously sharpened before lodged into the toddlers mouth it saved his life. If there had been a pointed edge it would of went through the 18 months vein and would of caused severe damage and a lot of bleeding, and would of likely bled to death before he ever reached the hospital. Greatfully, doctors successfully removed the pencil from Auston’s mouth in surgery.
My first reaction to this story was that, it was a very scary and a freaky accident. I couldn’t imagine the horror that was going through Auston’s parent’s heads. The poor child being stabbed in the neck with a pencil? Owch! I couldn’t imagine that sort of pain. I would probably pass out before I even got to the hospital. This little toddler made it all the way to the hospital strong and wanting this pencil out of his throat. I almost think that toddlers and dogs have the same immune system. It almost seems as though, you know a dog barely shows any signs of discomfort or pain, Toddlers almost have this protected layer around their body. This story made me think how worried you are as a parent. If I had children I would have a video camera taped to their noggin to see what their getting into. I couldn’t imagine the thought of one of my children getting hurt and being close to death, especially at such a young age.
I believe I reacted the way that I did because naturally, I am a worry wart…..unfortunately. But the very thought of losing a child is a crash into devastation. Which I am afraid of that when I don’t even have a child of my own. It is a freaky accident and I believe Auston was a very lucky boy to be alive. I bet he will never look at a pencil the same again. In Ohio Cincinnati, the execution of Romell Broom, a convicted rapist-murderer, was halted when technicians were unable to inject him with lethal drugs. A federal judge ordered that the inmate be deposed for federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Ohio’s lethal injection procedure. Lethal injection as a means for punishment is not an ideal system, and is commonly regarded as cruel and unusual punishment, especially in cases where the execution is flawed. A comment from Mr. Stebbins, an assistant public defender, states that there are ‘insufficient protections built into the Ohio procedures that guarantee it will be a painless execution” and that they” don’t cover all issues like in Mr. Broom’s case.”
My first reaction was that this was a fairly unremarkable story. When it comes down to it, who really worries if a convicted killer goes through some unnecessary pain? Then I went through the rest of the article and realized that there is more to it than that. There aren’t just these nameless faceless people facing lethal injection. They are just like us, human, and they have to suffer through torture. If the point of sentencing death is to make sure they can’t continue with their actions, to just remove their life quickly and without pain, then why are we using these excruciating means?
My first reaction was also that there was something off about this article. After reading through it once more I realized that there is a lack of emotion found in these people who are trying to dispose of the lethal injection. Though they are seemingly trying to pursue a just cause in the removal of this form of execution, they act rather apathetic to the fact that Mr. Broom suffered. Instead they concentrate on the fact that his testimony is a valuable time limited resource.
I personally believe that the way they execute is cruel, and even though the convicted might be well deserving of what they get, there should be a little more humanity and compassion on the part of those executing. Adding insult to injury, they are now trying to use him to make a case against lethal injection before his own scheduled death. They are forgetting that he is in fact a human being, and thinking of him instead as a disposable subject, wanting to first drag out all of the information he can give them relative to their case before letting him die. They may be making a case against a cruel death, but it doesn’t seem like they are particularly trying to help him, but only to justify their own thoughts of lethal injection.
In conclusion, Is it necessary to use this man as a puppet?, Especially, if he will no longer be affected by the outcome by no means, is he really worth hearing a word from, then why use him? Due to his reasoning of being in Prison you think twice to whether or not you really care about the topic, but in good reasoning you draw yourself to think about humanity. The world today stands ground of no mercy, people think they are so grand and intelligent they have no idea of their own ignorance. Every evil person will soon get their punishment, but we have no say in who, what or when. My point is life is just a big crime and there is no way around it, whether you go to church or not sin is bound to be within.

Eden Memorial Park
I found this story at http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/09/11/siu.cemetery.remains/index.html. it is about the Los Angeles, California cemetery, has been accused of desecrating the remains of those buried there. The lawsuit is filed by F. Charles Sands, whose parents are buried at Eden Memorial Park, against the cemetery and its owner. The workers of the cemetery “intentionally, willfully and secretly desecrated the remains of deceased individuals,” moving them to make more room. More than 500 graves were dug up without the permission from the families. On top of removing them from their proper burial they also discarded the remains improperly, said attorney Michael Avenatti. The groundskeepers were secretly instructed to break buried concrete interment vaults with backhoes, sometimes human remains would often fall out of the broken caskets, and those body parts were either thrown away or scattered.
I was shocked when I read this story, It amazes me how selfish and crude people can be. I believe it is wrong to dig up someone’s grave and especially without permission. My thought towards the end of the story did not change, only became stronger.
I believe I acted I acted harshly, I think the groundskeepers should get a life punishment for disrespecting the deceased. They acted heartless and they, “ Intentionally, willfully and secretly desecrated the remains of deceased individuals.” That very sentence gave me the chills, you wouldn’t think human beings could be so deceiving.
Over all this story was very depressing, and I hope all the families affected by this tragedy can get through this on top!

Japan made a national holiday to honor the elderly on September 21, said in an annual report by the Health and Welfare ministry. Japans centenarians has doubled in the past 6 years, more than 40,000 lives have spanned more than a century, the Government said Friday. For 50 years they have been accelerating rapidly, 10 years ago it was 10,000 and in 2007 it was 30,000 and it has grown 10,000 in the past two years. Also for every centenarian will receive a letter from the Prime Minister and a silver cup. Because Japans is over burdened with public pension and medical care system, and high living standards. Rules must be made, they are trying to extend retirement from 60 to 65. The question is that everyone seems to be overlooking is why do people, who live different cultures live completely different lives. Japan has the longest expectations of life 86 for women and 79 for men.
My first reaction to this article was that it was very unique to create a holiday for the elder. I don’t see a problem with doing that, If anything it should have been done years ago.
I believe I reacted this way because common courtesy is a rare identity to find in certain societies. I believe it’s a nice jesture to try and make up for our losses. Rules Guiding Fish farming in the Gulf are readied
The Rules guiding fish farming have been readied. They are establishing a national policy on fish farming in federal waters. The Federal fishery
management council over the Gulf jurisdiction is establishing permit requirements and are deciding what fish can be farmed and where they can be farmed at and so forth. Jim Balsinger, administrator for fish said in the absence of federal policy for saltwater fish farms, the agency had no grounds to block the Gulf plan. Also a National aquaculture framework was an “urgent” priority and it would be issued for permits within months, but for now the Gulf guidelines have the force of law. Most fish in the U.S. is imported and half of that is farmed fish. For the fish farms it is very difficult to make a profit for it takes more to feed the fish than to produce them.
My first response to reading this article was that I sort of feel bad for the fish. But that Dr. Balsinger really cares about the heath and natural habitat of fish is an extremity to me. I’m more than glade that they are establishing a national policy, maybe fish farmers will be more intentive of how they process things.
I believe that something should of changed a long time ago, but nothing ever changes till it’s tumbling fast and is almost unstoppable. I am glad that it is now because fish farming can be cruel and dangerous not just for the fish but for consumers as well. When I read that “ A National aquaculture framework was an “urgent” priority and it would be issued for permits within months.” That right there (National) means something BIG and should be taken very seriously and with the proper cautions.
